Rite of Spring
Over the long season of simmering, gentle spring rain, I emerge slowly from my sleep, from under the dark mist earth, half-blinded from the rays of bright days. A voice whispering in my ear, “Awake! Awake! Come dance with me!” Tremble with excitement, my footsteps dancing along with the invisible breeze.

How could I forget this accidental moment once I laid my eyes upon an upside down pastel painting? Closer. To the point until my thoughts growing under your layers, my sight full of your glorious colours. Every line, every strokes and every colour brought me closer to the arrival I seek. Yet I still not there.

How should I describe my feeling while painting this “Queen of Hearts Parrot Tulip”? She is so bold, demanding, enchanted, alluring and perfectly regal. It has taken all my strength to wrestle with all the brushes, dipping in such intense colours while she whispering commands in her high pitch voice. Taking me twice as long to paint compare to the other oil paintings. How now I missed your presence when it was all over.

This marvelous firebird parrot tulip came alive when the oil painting almost done, and keep telling me “Let me be free!” At this point, I knew she is ready spreading out her flame like wings, to take off on her own unknown journey. I have fallen in love with parrot tulip the first time when I saw its colorful petals, and couldn’t resist the challenge to work with its shape and color scheme. Later, I recognized that the close up image of a parrot tulip resembles to the shape of a human heart, with intense emotion. This parrot tulip truly a metaphor of a blasting heart on fire.
